Salsa Verde

Okay, so I am obsessed with salsa! Especially salsa verde (aka green salsa) it’s tangy, limey and of course it’s got a kick! I have played around with different styles, types and ways to make this salsa and this is BY FAR my favorite recipe I’ve created! It is so addicting and I can’t wait for you to try it! 🙌🏻

Below are all the ingredients I use! I honestly eye ball a lot of seasonings and ingredients to cater to my likes that day, but I think I’ve narrowed it down for you!


What you’ll need:

  • 10-15 tomatillos
  • 2 Serrano peppers (you can use jalapeños if you want it less spicy)
  • 2 chilies de Arbol (they are typically sold dehydrated)
  • 1-2 avocados
  • 1/4 of a white onion
  • 1 Roma tomato
  • 2 Tbs tomato bouillon (caldo de tomate)
  • 2 limes
  • Cilantro (to taste, I usually use about a 1/4 cup)
  • Garlic (to taste, I usually use about 2 Tbs)
  • Salt (to taste)

What to do:

  1. Peel tomatillos then cut in half to quarter size pieces depending on their size
  2. Cut stems off both Serrano peppers. Cut the peppers in half and take out the seeds of one Serrano pepper. Leave seeds in one full Serrano. (You can take the seeds out of both peppers depending on how spicy you want it)
  3. Cut stems off the chilies de Arbol and take out the seeds
  4. Cut Roma tomato in half
  5. Cut 1/4 of white onion in half (no need to get fancy)
  6. In a sauce pan, add about 1- 2 cups of water (just to cover veggies) and your tomato bouillon. Add in your Serranos, 1/4 of a white onion, tomatillos, chilies de Arbol and Roma tomato.
  7. Boil veggies until they are soft. (About 15 mins)
  8. Once they are soft, add all your boiled veggies, garlic, lime juice, cilantro, half an avocado and salt into a blender. Blend until smooth. Add extra avocado to cut down the spice or to make it creamer. (I usually use a whole avocado depending on the size).
  9. Enjoy!

Cut, peel and add all your veggies to a sauce pan with water.
Add in tomato bouillon.
Boil until very soft and tender.
Looks kinda weird..but blend with cilantro, avocado, garlic, salt and lime until smooth.
Enjoy!! I put this salsa on EVERYTHING! I love it on eggs, tacos, sandwiches and here I put it on taco salad!! I cant wait to see what you use it on!
